Do This to Break a Ball Carrier’s Posture & Dominate Tackles | The Contact Room

Want to dominate the tackle and take away a ball carrier’s fight? In this Contact/ Interrogation Room breakdown, we explore two techniques to disrupt posture, neutralize leg drive, and control the collision zone in rugby and American football.

These skills are perfect for situations where:

The initial tackle hasn’t brought the carrier down

They’re fighting to offload or continue driving

You need a way to shut down momentum and secure the ground battle

💥 What You’ll Learn:

The “Mean” Method — Targeting the vulnerable lower ribs with wrist pressure to collapse posture and eliminate drive.

The Mechanical Method — Front-on shoulder/knee drive with simultaneous back pull to put carriers in a mechanically weak position.

🏉 Who It’s For:

Rugby league & union players seeking defensive control

Football defenders looking to stop forward progress

Coaches teaching tackle reinforcement and second defender technique

Athletes building smarter contact systems and tackle flow

⏱ Tactical Benefits:

Breaks offensive momentum

Forces ball carriers into submission posture

Enhances ruck control and slows play

Perfect for second tackler support drills

⚠️ Safety Note: Always practice these techniques slowly and under control before applying game speed.

Lovely stuff guys. Appreciate the theory. Would really like to see an evolution where your ball carrier resists a bit more as well to see it play out a little bit more realistically. Just a thought – great content regardless.
